Read not the Times. Read the Eternities. ~ Henry David Thoreau

September 7 is the birthdate of Elizabeth I, queen regnant of England and Ireland from 1558 until her death in 1603. The daughter of despotic Henry VIII and the ill-fated Anne Boleyn, the Virgin Queen was the fifth and last monarch of the Tudor dynasty. After the short reigns of Elizabeth's half-siblings, her 44 years on the throne provided welcome stability for the kingdom and helped forge a sense of national identity.
